This incident was triggered when the Imam could not accept a rental car parked blocking his house, which is owned by her neighbor, Sahara and her husband, Sofyan. He explained that rental vehicles often park in front of his house, and one day, he could not get his car out because a rental car was parked in front of his house. “The driver of the rental car couldn’t be woken up, Sahara got angry instead, and I was told to take the keys to move the car,” Imam recounted.
The parking problem near Imam’s house got worse when he cleaned up and prepared an empty lot to make a communal parking space, which neighbors strongly disagree, claiming it violated their property rights and housing regulations. The situation became more serious after a video showing Imam rolling on the ground during an argument went viral. Imam said the video was made to hurt his reputation. Following a community meeting on September 7, 2025, the neighbors made five demands for Imam and his wife to leave the area. Since then, Imam has moved out and is currently staying in a guest house while preparing to sell his property.
The conflict with Imam Muslimin has changed from a local argument about parking and land to a legal issue about defamation and trust in the community. Even though there have been talks to settle the problem, no agreement has been made. The university confirmed that Imam is no longer a teacher there, and reports and proof have been given to the authorities.
A local resident stated, “We hope the authorities handle this fairly, so peace and safety can return to our neighborhood.”
Neighbors remain hopeful for a fair resolution to restore harmony in the community.
