Palembang – In today’s ever-evolving digital communication era, the ability to think creatively and critically has become essential for the younger generation. Addressing this need, the Communication Studies Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, serves as a nurturing space for students to sharpen their intellectual potential, practical skills, and creative capabilities aligned with the demands of the times.
As one of the flagship programs within FISIP, Communication Studies is committed to producing graduates who excel not only academically, but also in communication skills, social awareness, and the ability to think critically in delivering messages and shaping public opinion constructively.
A Curriculum Rooted in Creativity and Critical Thinking
The Communication Studies curriculum is designed with a student-centered learning approach, emphasizing interactivity and application. Students not only study theories of mass communication, public relations, and intercultural communication, but also receive guidance in developing campaign strategies, writing advertisement scripts, and producing impactful multimedia content.
“Here, student creativity is highly appreciated. We are given the freedom to express our ideas through various projects whether documentaries, social campaigns, or journalistic reports. But more importantly, we are encouraged to think critically about the content, impact, and ethics of communication,” said one of the students.
Laboratory Facilities that Support Innovative Learning
To support a practical and creative learning experience, FISIP UIN Raden Fatah offers a variety of well-equipped laboratories, including Broadcasting Labs (TV and Radio), Journalism Lab, Photography Lab, and Public Speaking Lab. These facilities provide a platform for students to hone their technical skills while sharpening their sensitivity to messaging and media.
Students have the opportunity to write news scripts, become radio hosts, create podcasts, and edit videos—all essential skills for the future.
Student Activities as a Field for Creative Expression
Beyond classroom and lab-based learning, Communication Studies students actively participate in extracurricular activities such as the Student Press Unit, Public Communication Forum, and film and social media communities. These activities serve as outlets for expression and exploration while training students to think critically about current issues through a humanistic and solution-oriented communication approach.
Many students have proudly achieved recognition at both local and national levels in public speaking competitions, scientific writing contests, and digital content production.
Learning That Is Relevant to the Professional World
The Communication Studies Program also collaborates with various industry partners, including print and electronic media, PR agencies, government institutions, and NGOs. Through internship programs, students have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, expand their professional networks, and prepare themselves for future careers.
By combining theory, practice, and fieldwork, the program aims to equip graduates with the competencies needed in the industry whether as journalists, public relations officers, content creators, or public communicators.
Integrating Knowledge with Islamic Values
As part of an Islamic university, the Communication Studies Program emphasizes the importance of ethics and moral values in communication. Students are encouraged to become responsible communicators, speak the truth, and promote positive social change through messages grounded in humanitarian and Islamic values.
With a vision to produce graduates who are intellectual, critical, creative, and possess strong integrity, Communication Studies at FISIP UIN Raden Fatah Palembang stands out as an ideal environment for growthpreparing future communicators to thrive in the digitalisasi.
