Bantul (MTsN 6 Bantul)—English learning took on a lively and meaningful atmosphere as students of MTsN 6 Bantul confidently stepped forward to converse directly with a native speaker on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The interactive learning session was held at the de’Talenta Library of MTsN 6 Bantul and became a memorable experience for students as they practiced English in an authentic and engaging setting.
The presence of a native speaker from Senegal, Africa, made the English lesson come alive. Serge Nanda, a PhD student at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII), was warmly welcomed by the madrasah community. His participation provided students with a rare opportunity to interact directly with a native speaker, helping them gain real exposure to natural English communication.
Although Serge Nanda had just arrived from Jakarta and initially felt tired, his energy quickly returned after being served warm tea and seeing the enthusiasm of around 60 students. With renewed spirit, he shared stories in English and actively responded to students’ questions, creating an open and encouraging learning environment.
During the interaction, students bravely spoke in English, even though they were still in the process of learning and often made mistakes. Serge patiently listened and responded positively, encouraging them not to feel embarrassed and to keep practicing. His supportive attitude helped students build confidence and view mistakes as a natural part of the learning journey.
The Head of MTsN 6 Bantul, Sugiyono, warmly welcomed and expressed his appreciation for the presence of the native speaker. He emphasized that such activities are highly valuable in fostering students’ confidence and improving their English communication skills. According to him, meaningful and interactive learning experiences like this can inspire students to become more courageous and motivated in mastering foreign languages. (ewh)
