Bantul — In an effort to strengthen discipline, order, and comfort in the learning environment, MTsN 6 Bantul has introduced a new innovation: phone lockers for students. This facility is part of the school’s ongoing commitment to providing excellent service and creating a conducive atmosphere for learning and character development.
Headmaster of MTsN 6 Bantul, Mr. Sugiyono, explained that the installation of phone lockers aims to regulate the use of mobile phones within the school environment while still recognizing students’ need for communication tools in the digital era. “We understand that mobile phones have become an inseparable part of students’ daily lives,” he said. “However, their use must be controlled so as not to interfere with concentration during lessons. The phone locker is a balanced and wise solution to manage this issue.”
Under the system, students are required to submit their phones to the class teacher or the duty officer each morning before lessons begin. The devices are stored securely in numbered compartments corresponding to each student’s name. At the end of the school day, students may retrieve their phones in an orderly manner. This policy helps prevent distractions and misuse of mobile phones during class hours while cultivating students’ responsibility and honesty.
Vice Principal for Facilities and Infrastructure, Mr. Joko Setiawan, added that this initiative is also part of MTsN 6 Bantul’s “PTSP Cermat” (One-Stop Integrated Service—Fast, Friendly, Easy, and Complete), a flagship service model that reflects the school’s dedication to efficient and student-centered management. “This locker system is not merely a storage facility,” he stated, “but a form of care for students’ comfort and learning needs.”
Several students expressed appreciation for the program, noting that they felt calmer and more focused during lessons without phone distractions. Through this innovation, MTsN 6 Bantul continues to establish itself as a forward-thinking madrasah that promotes discipline, provides quality service, and harmonizes digital literacy with strong character education.
