Bantul (MTs Negeri 6 Bantul) — An innovative learning activity was once again carried out by the English teachers of MTsN 6 Bantul. On Monday (November 3, 2025), Grade VIII students participated in a lesson on narrative texts by using barcodes as interactive media. Through this activity, students were encouraged to learn actively and independently with the support of technology that is familiar in their daily lives.
Guided by their teachers, the students were introduced more deeply to narrative texts. They learned various important aspects such as commonly used vocabulary, the meaning of words and sentences, the author’s purpose, as well as identifying explicit and implicit information within the text. This process made it easier for students to understand the structure and content of narrative texts in an enjoyable way.
Interestingly, the students used their mobile phones to scan barcodes provided in the learning book. After scanning, they could directly access practice exercises related to the narrative texts being studied. This approach not only made learning materials more accessible but also fostered curiosity and enthusiasm for learning in the digital era.
The Principal of MTsN 6 Bantul, Sugiyono, expressed his appreciation for this learning method. He stated that the use of gadgets for learning activities is a positive step as long as it is implemented under proper supervision and regulations. According to him, the use of technology such as barcodes can serve as a bridge for students to become more active, creative, and responsible learners.
Through this barcode-based learning approach, MTsN 6 Bantul demonstrates its commitment to bringing innovation into education. With a well-directed digital learning method, students not only gain a deeper understanding of narrative texts but also learn to use technology wisely to support their learning process.
