Good campus facilities are an important aspect that supports teaching and learning activities. With good facilities, the students will feel comfortable when they are studying. Unfortunately, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has not given its best to build a good and comfortable facility for its students. This happens because the development of facilities has not been evenly distributed across all faculties at UNNES.
One of the buildings whose facilities have been overlooked by the university is the B3 Building, which is the building of the Department of English Language and Literature. If we compare it to the newest building at the Faculty of Languages and Arts, the B11 Building, we can see that the new building is modern and modest, while the B3 Building is old and somewhat neglected. It shows that the development of facilities at the Faculty of Languages and Arts at UNNES remains uneven.

One of the issues about facilities in the B3 building is the air conditioner (AC), the projector, and the toilet. “Many classrooms in B3 are poorly maintained, for example, the air conditioners or projectors are not working. This is very inconvenient for both students and lecturers, as it hinders learning activity,” said Elisha, one of the students of English Literature. Where does the tuition fee that students have paid go? The facilities they receive do not match what they pay for. This issue deserves strong criticism, as students should be able to study in a comfortable environment with adequate facilities.

The students of the B3 buildings not only critiqued the classrooms, but also the unsafe toilets for women. “As a woman, it feels uncomfortable knowing that the stall across from mine is the men’s stall,” said Elisha. The toilets in the B3 Building are very uncomfortable and unsafe for women because the male’s toilet and female’s toilet are located directly across from each other in the same room. With the increasing issue of sexual harassment on campus, a lot of students, especially women, feel anxious.

The positioning of the male’s toilet and the female’s toilet that are across from each other could lead to several immoral acts, such as peeking, taking a picture, or a video secretly. This issue must be addressed and resolved promptly by the faculty, as toilets are an important facility in the campus environment. The university should pay more attention to the facilities in each building, not just the English building, and prioritize developing high-quality facilities for civitas academica. Adequate facilities are essential to ensure that all students, lecturers, and staff of UNNES feel comfortable and safe while carrying out their activities.
