Bantul (MTsN 6 Bantul) — MTsN 6 Bantul has demonstrated its commitment to developing students’ character and skills through the launch of a co-curricular program titled “Farming Is Cool.” The program was officially opened on Friday (January 9) at the Al-Hikmah Prayer Hall of MTsN 6 Bantul. It is designed as a contextual learning platform that integrates knowledge, skills, and values of environmental awareness.
The “Farming Is Cool” program will involve all students of grades 7, 8, and 9, with guidance from facilitators and support from the entire madrasah community. Through this program, students are introduced directly to the world of agriculture, starting from land preparation, seed selection, planting, crop maintenance, to harvesting.
The Head of MTsN 6 Bantul, Sugiyono, stated that the program aligns with the values of the eight graduate profile competencies. “We aim to instill independence, mutual cooperation, responsibility, and a love for nature. Farming is not only about the results, but also about the learning process that shapes character,” he explained.
In addition, the program is expected to foster students’ entrepreneurial spirit from an early age. The harvests will be utilized as materials for further learning activities, such as processing agricultural products and simple marketing practices, allowing students to gain real-life experience in creative economics.
Teachers have warmly welcomed the program as it effectively connects classroom learning materials with real-world practice. As a result, students not only understand theory but also develop 21st-century skills such as collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.
The implementation of “Farming Is Cool” is scheduled to begin in the near future by utilizing the madrasah’s land as an educational garden. MTsN 6 Bantul hopes that this program will be sustainable and become a distinctive feature of the madrasah in nurturing a generation that is strong in character, environmentally conscious, and ready to face future challenges.
