Bantul (MTsN 6 Bantul) — Mathematics learning in Grade VIII at MTsN 6 Bantul on Monday (January 5, 2026) took place in a fun-filled and enthusiastic atmosphere. The mathematics teacher, Suhartatik, presented joyful learning through multiplication games and guessing activities involving numbers below ten.
The lesson began with a brief apperception activity to rebuild students’ learning motivation after the first day back at school. Students were then invited to take part in quick-response guessing games on the results of multiplication from numbers 1 to 9, packaged in an interactive way. Students were divided into groups of four to five and took turns asking each other questions. If a student gave an incorrect answer, they received a light-hearted “penalty” in the form of a label placed on their face. The activity then continued in a classical format, with the teacher presenting questions orally. Students came to the front to form a circle and responded using movements: if the answer was correct, they moved to the right; if incorrect, they moved to the left. When students were not in sync, they would bump into one another, adding to the excitement of the game.
The classroom atmosphere was lively and full of joy. Students enthusiastically paid attention, encouraged one another, and tried their best to give correct answers. Through this activity, students not only practiced their calculation skills but also improved their concentration, self-confidence, and teamwork.
Suhartatik, S.Pd., stated that mathematics learning needs to be designed in an engaging way so that students feel comfortable and motivated. Through simple game-based approaches, multiplication concepts can be understood more easily and without boredom.
This joyful mathematics learning aligns with the madrasah’s efforts to create a meaningful, enjoyable, and student-centered learning environment. It is expected that through this activity, the numeracy skills of Grade VIII students will continue to improve and their interest in learning mathematics will grow further. (sht/vha/ewh)
