Located in the Purwosari, Mijen, Sodong Village is a place with great potential for both local business and tradition. Covering an area of 48,049 hectares, the village is home to 9,511 people who work in farming and the clothing industry. In Sodong Village, visitors can see the two main landmarks, the Tugu Dandang and the Tugu Konveksi. These monuments are more than just statues for Sodong Village, they represent the pride of the community and show the village’s roots in both traditional work and local business.
The Head of Purwosari, Budi Saryanto, explained that these landmarks show the true identity of their people and they could become great places for tourism and learning spots if they were managed better. While the village has rich, fertile land that produces high-quality crops, it is also known by many people as the “Convection Village.” The growth of clothing businesses in the area has made Sodong a key spot for making clothes, supported by a skilled workforce that keeps the local economy moving.

Aside from its work in business and farming, Sodong holds deep historical value as a part of the journey of Sunan Kalijaga. Specifically, the village is home to the Jatiombo site, where the religious figure is believed to have rested while searching for teak wood to build the Great Mosque of Demak. This spiritual heritage is kept alive through the annual Nyadran tradition and stories from it passed down through families. However, Budi Saryanto pointed out that a lack of marketing and information has kept these cultural and historical treasures away from the public eye. He mentioned that with its connection to such an important figure and its natural beauty, the village could be a real hidden gem, though it does not yet get the attention it deserves.
Even with its quiet and natural environment, Sodong is easy to reach from the city. It is located only 12 km from the Universitas Negeri Semarang, which is about a 25-minute drive. It offers a quick escape from the busy environment. The village is surrounded by Kuningan on the north, Pandansari on the south, Plombokan on the west, and Dadapsari on the east area. Blessed with its good soil, workshops, and sacred history, Sodong Village remains a promising location that only needs more recognition to truly shine as a destination in Semarang.
