Hanoi, Vietnam — As part of her cultural immersion during her Global Volunteer x KKN International Program, an Indonesian student explored some of Hanoi’s most prominent cultural heritage sites, including the Vietnam National Fine Arts Museum and the historic Temple of Literature. The visit provided her with a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s cultural identity, history, and artistic expression, adding a layer of meaning to the overall experience.
The Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts was a memorable stop on the program. Home to thousands of works of art, including ancient sculptures, traditional lacquer paintings, wartime sketches, and contemporary works, the museum offered a panoramic view of the evolution of Vietnamese art. The presence of local Hanoi students added to the excitement and memorable experience of the visit.
Exploring the gallery halls, the students examined the artworks on display. Aviza (an Indonesian student) and her friend were impressed by the emotional depth of the wartime artworks and the skill of traditional lacquer art, emphasizing how art offers perspectives beyond formal learning. In addition to each work being accompanied by an audio barcode, a local Hanoi student also participated in explaining the stories behind some of the paintings and the history of the Vietnamese revolution.
Another visit is to the Temple of Literature, one of Hanoi’s most important historical sites, dedicated to Confucius (the ancient Chinese philosopher) and classical education. With its traditional Vietnamese architecture, spacious courtyards, and serene atmosphere, the complex offers moments of deep reflection amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The site beautifully illustrates how tradition, history, and knowledge combine to form a rich and enduring cultural identity.
More than just sightseeing, these visits play a crucial role in the personal and cross-cultural learning journeys of the KKN participants. For the students, these moments in Hanoi serve as a reminder that cultural immersion is as important as community service. The combination of learning, reflection, and discovery enriches their perspectives and strengthens the overall impact of their KKN experience.
